The Core of Google AdSense
Having prior knowledge of AdSense, I do not feel a need to elaborate what AdSense is and how it works. I believe you already bare that in mind. Instead, let's look a little bit deeper - let's go inside the "core" of AdSense system.Again, as you probably know, AdSense is sister-programme of AdWords. AdSense is for publishers, while AdWords is for advertisers. I personally signed up for AdSense several years ago, and since then, I have had not-so-big success with it, but I am satisfied. Do know that people earn hundreds of thousands of dollars every month from AdSense - but those are sites as big as Digg.com
Many AdSense publishers do almost everything to increase their earnings. One of the ways is to try to increase an average Revenue per Click (RPC), and although that is being carefully monitored and determined by the big G, they still believe in it. Let them go - I don't want to be the one to wake them up from their dreams.
There have been rumors that keyphrases such as "mesothelioma cancer cure" bring up to 50$ per click. That's nonsense.
But did you know how much Google charges its advertiser, who actually deliver ads, being an AdWords user? A lot. Taking an example that AdSense publisher earned 1$ from one click, the advertiser has been charged at least 1.70$. Though both figures vary all the time.
Being an AdWords advertiser and an AdSense publisher, I was able to monitor my "money". Proportionally speaking, I earned 24$ from AdSense in one day, having 30 clicks, but I also spend 22$, with my ad being clicked only 17 times. That's almost a double!
The crucial thing is the famous Google AdSense Terms of Service, commonly referred as GAToS or simply ToS. They also have Google AdSense Program Policy, which you must obey. When it comes to terms of Google's (almost) only source of income, they are careful. You REALLY need to read the whole ToS and PP, and to make sure you are able to follow all of them. If you can't - don't sign up; there are tons of other programs with "soft" ToS.
The mostly disputable part of GAToS is where Google says that it can terminate your account at any time if it finds that you violate GAToS, and without prior notice. This has caused many controversy between Google and its AdSense publishers. In addition to that, you are always lifelong banned from AdSense - there's no way you can sign up again. Hundreds of accounts are being banned every day.
That's not SO bad - but, once banned, you do NOT get the money that was on your account at the time of the ban!
According to some my estimations, at least of about 20% of people that are banned are banned without their personal guilt. Publishers do have right to appeal, but, so far, I have heard of only one case of appeal acceptance. They deducted 30$ from that guy's account, though.
I have also heard of this case: one guy was banned losing 20,000.00$ that was on his account, when he was banned.
So, AdSense is really good - but it's not the best! I always recommend searching for at least 3 alternatives to AdSense - one never knows!
